Introduction
Rizvi College of Architecture was established in August 1992 by Dr.
Akhtar Hasan Rizvi, the well known builder and developer, in keeping
with his cherished dream of setting up a network of academic institution
that would develop into a modern university.
Rizvi College of Architecture has been affiliated with the University
of Mumbai and has been granted approval by the AICTE for its five
year Degree Course in Architecture with an annual intake of 40 students.
Rizvi College of Architecture aims to evolve into a school of architectural
thought focussing on the human, socio-cultural, environmental, scientific
and technological, aesthetic and philosophical values. The academic
programme of the College follows the syllabus of the University of
Mumbai. The courses are structured to orient the studies in a range
of contexts, which includes rural, urban, metropolitan, regional,
national and international. Architecture as a synthesis in space and
time calls for focussing on the heritage and conservation issues on
one side and the innovative and developmental aspects on the other.
Rizvi College of Architecture has a faculty with rich national and
international professional experience and a high standard of academic
background. The faculty consists of full-time core faculty and part-time
visiting faculty ensuring a higher faculty student ratio than 1:10
as required by the AICTE. Professor Akhtar Chauhan FIIA, architect
planner, is the founder principal of the college.
The academic programme of Rizvi College of Architecture is supported
by a related studies programme and extra-curricular activities to
give an all round education and training to the students. The objective
is to develop their creative skills and holistic knowledge. The annual
calendar includes monthly exhibition of student and faculty works,
guest lectures, seminars, workshops, study tours and events like Rizvi
Arch Fest, Rizvi Arch Expo and International Conference on Humane
Habitat, where architects, students and faculty of other colleges
of the city participate actively.
The College is located in Rizvi Educational complex, a cosmopolitan
urban community in Rizvi Complex, Sherly Village, off Carter Road
at Bandra west, Mumbai. It is approachable conveniently from Bandra
and Khar railway stations in the Western Railway and by BEST buses,
which run with a high frequency. The 3 Kms. bus-ride hardly takes
10 minutes. The college is located in a pollution-free environment
near the Arabian Sea.

The noble profession of architecture calls for creative and dedicated
persons who are charged with a constructive urge to shape a humane
environment to live in. Architecture, as an art and science of built-environment,
has a crucial role to play in the process of development.
India, with its 5000 years old architectural heritage, has been in
the forefront of development in various periods of its evolution.
Since independence, with rapid economic development, industrial growth
and urbanization, there is an ever-increasing demand for talented
architects and related professionals to plan, design and manage the
built-environment.
Rizvi Education Society is committed to the goals and objectives of
national development. As part of this mission of human development,
education and training of young citizens has been taken up in various
fields of knowledge such as arts, science, commerce, architecture
engineering and management.
Rizvi College of Architecture was established in August 1992 and it

India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) and the Council of Architecture
(COA). The College has taken up the challenging task of evolving into
a prime school of thought in the field of Architecture. Rizvi Education
Society provides the necessary financial, technical and human resource
infrastructure to develop the College as one of the most progressive
centre of architecture learning. Within the short period of its inception,
the College has already developed professional links with leading
schools and colleges in India and abroad. Rizvi College of Architecture
is one of the three institutions to have prestigious, parts I and
II, recognition of the Commonwealth Association of Architects.
The College aims to develop an all round character and creativity
among its students. The students of the college have won the Gold
Medal of the University of Mumbai and have been in the merit list.
The graduates of the college have won national and local awards for
their design, heritage studies and environmental improvement schemes.
In an era of globalisation the college prepares the students and graduates
to face the challenges and complex tasks of shaping living environment
for the 21st Century.

MISSION STATEMENT
Rizvi College of Architecture is an integral part of national
mission for human development through education. The prime goal of
the educational programme is to prepare students for a professional
role as architects in the service of humanity.
An architect has to play multiple roles in the field of built environment.
However, his primary responsibility is to co-ordinate design endeavour.
This requires development of leadership quality as design and planning
involves teamwork. The team includes architects, planners, interior
designers and landscape architects, structural and services engineers,
construction and project management consultants, legal, finance and
other consultants.
The College has long-term plans to offer post-graduate and doctoral
programmes in various specializations in the related fields such as
housing, urban design, urban and regional planning, architectural
heritage conservation, interior architecture and landscape architecture.
The most essential part of the mission strategy is to develop an all
round awareness of the complex issues involved in shaping of built-environment,
and to equip the students with knowledge and insight to meet the challenges
of development and conservation, of continuity of relevant traditions
and effecting through appropriate innovation in a variety of human,
social, economic, technical and environmental contexts. The mission
aims at development of sincere professionals with a high standard
of morals and ethics, intellectual honesty, clarity of thought and
with a spirit of innovative and creativity. |
